Desktop First!

The euphoria over the whole ‘mobile first’ idea is over. When mobile phones first came in, we thought they were going to the only thing that survives and they will make desktop unrequired. But you and I both know that’s not how it turned out. Even after the constant improvement in the mobile hardware and software, it is clear that there is a limit in which we can use our mobiles and somethings are just unusable on them.

Alas, we must turn back to our first love, the desktop… which is where all mobile development takes place anyway! Think about that for a minute! Companies want you believing that desktop is dead when they themselves ‘need’ the desktop to support those claims! How ironic!!

In the past couple of years, I have seen customers refrain from wanting to create an app first. There’s just no way a user is inclined to add an app in his mobile unless its a for their own frequent personal consumption. The problem of plenty is afoot!

Does that mean mobiles are dead?? No way! It just means that we are now maturing to a point where we know what kinds of application belong where and one size (pun unintended) doesn’t fit all! Besides, there’s a certain richness and detail on desktop apps which, lets face it, mobiles just cannot offer.
